Work performed
- Silo cleaning
- Opening all the air slides
- Removing and replacing worn-out and clogged filter bags
- Pressure testing
Scope
A cement manufacturer engaged TALOS at its lime plant, where clogged and worn-out filter bags made it difficult to draw lime. The plant was using more energy to push the lime through and facing delays in packing it for the market. TALOS was asked to change all worn or clogged filter bags and canvas.
Access
The silo's side manhole was used for both entry and exit, and a straight ladder gave access to the air slides at the bottom of the silo.
Solution
The team started with a pressure test to identify the air slides that were not aerating properly. None of the canvases were bulging — meaning the filter bags were clogged or worn out.
All air slides were opened and the clogged filter bags replaced. Torn canvases that were causing pressure leaks were replaced as well.
Results
All air slide filter bags were replaced safely and successfully in one day, as planned. Regular maintenance keeps air slides at optimal performance: lower energy consumption, no material build-up and faster packing of lime or cement.
